As we announced in the previous article Official stream regarding boats, DayZ devs showed us rubber boats but there was also a surprise in the second part of the stream. This was a special day in the history of DayZ livestreams, because the host and guests were all coming from the community background, hired now by Bohemia Interactive.
So the stream was hosted by Marks, new Community Manager for the DayZ. The first guest was a Jacob Mango, programmer at Bohemia Interactive, previously a modder responsible for example for DayZ Expansion or Community Framework. Guys showed us a new boats, talked about few things related to them and answered questions from the players. It is worth to notice that boats are not fully implemented yet, some parts of the gameplay related to it (like proper damage to them) are still not released for testing.
Later Jacob was replaced by That Lad, who also comes from modding community. He is known for making his Winter mods for various maps. At BI he works as an artist and was responsible for example for redesinging houses for the new map Sakhal. Lad showed us only one village, but it containted new building assets and also mentioned new variants of very well known already existing buildings. When someone from the chat asked if we can expect similar “revamp” of houses on Chernarus or Livonia, Lad didn’t want to say yes or no, but “we will see in the future”. So maybe there are plans to refresh the experience on all maps in the future updates?
Additionaly, on the same day new dev blog was released for week 34. It was also focused on disclosing some details regarding the boats. Moreover, we have received some sneak peeks on audio design for Sakhal. There were few video clips shared how the audio of the nature and environment changes based on the weather. The devs are satisfied with the audio results, however they can see some fields for improvement in the future updates of the Frostline. What’s interesting, it was hinted that new buoyancy system introduced for boats, might help with adding in the future more realistic ocean waves. We don’t know yet what that means, if it is about introducing some taller waves or other changes.
